A Historic Neighborhood in Baltimore, MD
Hello Seton Hillers! Did you miss the Seton Hill Association General Meeting on 14 Feb? Here’s a brief summary of what happened. Actual meeting minutes will be posted online shortly.
Firstly, thank you to everyone who came out! A special thanks to our guests, Ashe Smith (State’s Attorney’s Office), Liam Davis (Office of the Council President, “Jack” Young), and Obie Chinemere (Office of 11th District Councilman Eric Costello).
Crime and Safety:
Major Kevin Jones briefly reflected on the success of the January 2017 “community walk” with the Baltimore City Police Department, Council staff, and our City Councilman Eric Costello. A reminder was provided to call x911 to report crime or suspicious activity. Neighborhood patrols are largely determined by x911 call data.
The Seton Hill Association is your partner in advocating for additional resources to increase security for the community so always send an email to president@setonhill.org when you make a x311 request for lamp poles that are out, trees that require trimming, or other hazards. Increasing security will always be a priority of Board members and future meetings will detail partnerships, educational outreach, or opportunities for all to get to know each other creating a stronger neighborhood.
Street Repairs:
An update was provided regarding activities related to the nearby street collapses (sinkholes) and area projects resulting in revised street patterns and occasional interruptions in water service.
Parking:
Dawnn McCleary, SHA Secretary/Parking Chair shared that the board had studied several parking changes in response to membership concerns voiced via social media and in person at recent Seton Hill events. A motion was unanimously approved in favor of proposed parking changes. Ms. McCleary will continue to navigate the detailed notification process working with the Parking Authority to effectuate the changes.
CHAP:
Mr. Eric Holcomb, Commission for Historical and Architectural Preservation (CHAP) discussed home exterior modifications required for our neighborhood since we are an historic district. CHAP and the Seton Hill Association are mindful of recent front door break-ins. Once the immediate safety needs are addressed, residents are advised to work with CHAP to ensure that all notifications and processes are followed so residents are not in violation and cited.
Real Estate:
Adding new residents in vacant dwellings and empty lots is a priority, as occupying these spaces helps to increase overall security. Realtors from Maison Realty presented their marketing plan for Seton Hill. More information will be forthcoming about co-sponsored events and activities. All are encouraged to send in stories or identify people who have recently moved to the neighborhood or conversely have lived in Seton Hill for a long time to share their stories. Upcoming Events:
Be on the lookout for fun getting-to-know you events such as having breakfast as a community at New America, attending an Orioles game, and participating in the 8/1 National Night Out.
