Committees are how specific parts of SHA’s work get extra hands and expertise, planning, safety, architecture, events, and more. Each one runs with input and leadership from community members who choose to get involved. When a committee doesn’t have active volunteers, the SHA Board of Directors serves as that committee by default, so they can use all the help you’re willing to offer.

The Green Team
The SHA has been awarded a $99,000 grant from the Chesapeake Bay Trust and BGE to plant almost 200 trees in Seton Hill! The funds will go toward removing dead or blighted trees and tree stumps, creating additional tree pits, planting new trees, maintaining those trees, and other neighborhood greening efforts. The project will improve the neighborhood’s appearance, reduce air pollution from surrounding high traffic streets, reduce stormwater runoff, and mitigate the urban heat island effect.
Master Planning Committee
We are developing a new neighborhood master plan! You can read our last plan, released in 2012, here. We are following a formal process using guidelines from the City’s Department of Planning (see the info on this page under “Community Managed Plans”). The committee will create many opportunities for neighbors to contribute to the plan, including a survey and several listening sessions. We aim to be ready to approach the City’s Planning Commission by the new year.
Architectural Review Committee
Any exterior work or new construction in Seton Hill requires CHAP review and permits before starting. The Architectural Review Committee (ARC) is here to help! We recommend contacting the ARC early in your planning process—before hiring contractors or architects—to discuss your project and avoid any potential challenges. The ARC can guide you through the CHAP permit review and approval process, ensuring your project meets all requirements.

Safety Committee
The Safety Committee is committed to working with neighbors, local officials, and law enforcement to ensure a safe and secure environment for all residents. By fostering strong community partnerships and addressing safety concerns, the committee aims to create a neighborhood where everyone feels protected and supported. Whether it’s crime prevention, emergency preparedness, or improving neighborhood security, the Safety Committee works collaboratively to promote a safer Seton Hill for everyone.
Art Committee
Public art, murals, and installations going up in the neighborhood pass through this committee before they’re approved, making sure new work fits the character of Seton Hill and has real community support behind it.
Event Committee
Big events, the flea market, cleanups, the holiday party, run smoother with a team behind them. This committee helps with logistics, volunteer recruitment, and keeping events running smoothly year to year instead of starting from scratch each time.
